You have changed banks, closed your bank account, or originally submitted incorrect ACH information, we will not be able to deposit your refund, instead we will issue your refund as a check. If you do not have a direct deposit account, you will be issued a debit card to access your benefits, but you may switch to direct deposit. If a refund or paycheck is sent to an invalid bank account, the receiving bank will notify Northeastern and the transaction will be considered incomplete and will be canceled.
How to Manage Your Direct Deposit
If you have already signed up for Direct Deposit or pay card for each of the recipients you serve you do not need to do anything additional. If a refund disburses to your closed direct deposit account, Student Financial Solutions will re-issue the funds as a paper check and mail it to the current mailing address on file. If you elect to re-enroll in direct deposit, our office can hold the funds per customer request and reissue the refund once the account information is verified.
Can I direct deposit myself?
As for how you want to pay yourself, it's up to you. You can write yourself a physical check and then deposit it into your personal bank account or set up a recurring payment via direct deposit.
Direct Deposit law mandates that all Federal benefit payments – including Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits – must be made electronically. With Direct Payment, you can eliminate the worry of whether or not your check will arrive on time by setting up a recurring payment for things like student loans or mortgage payments. If you need to deposit a sizable amount of money, a wire transfer can get the money into the other account within one business day or less. Expect to pay a fee of $15 to $50 for this service, however.
